99 Questions

Journal Entry: Fri Jun 26, 2009, 7:09 AM

(note: journal CSS is being worked on)

Stolen from :icontwistedcreampuff: and :iconchaos-dragon-99:

1. ONE OF YOUR SCARS, HOW DID YOU GET IT?
I have a big, long scar on the top of my foot. I dropped a knife a few years ago and it landed in my foot. Tip of the day: don’t play soccer with knives.

2. WHAT IS ON THE WALLS IN YOUR ROOM?
Nothing really. I’m used to moving every few months so I HAVE nothing to put on my walls. Now that I’m going to be in this one place for awhile, I’m totally lost as to what to hang on them…

3. DO YOU SNORE, GRIND YOUR TEETH, OR TALK IN YOUR SLEEP.
Nope. Although I do curl up into one of the corners and totally waste the point of owning something larger than a dog bed.

4. WHAT TYPE OF MUSIC DO YOU LISTEN TO?
Whatever’s on the radio. (:

5. DO YOU KNOW WHAT TIME YOU WERE BORN?
2:14 AM, middle of a snowstorm.

6. WHAT DO YOU WANT MORE THAN ANYTHING RIGHT NOW?
Ice cream with chocolate chunks and caramel swirls. *drool* And some time to myself to do nothing for awhile.

7. WHAT DO YOU MISS?
I don’t really miss anything. I enjoy living in the present and don’t like looking back to the past. Everything I need to make me happy (with the exception of ice cream) is around me in some form or another. I just need to look for it.

8. WHAT IS YOUR MOST PRIZED POSSESSION(S)?
Probably my laptop. I love writing so much that I’m not sure I’d be willing to part with it. Everything else I’d walk away from if I needed to. This I’d fight for.

9. HOW TALL ARE YOU?
5 foot 6. Perfect height. Tall enough to be taken seriously, but short enough that guys are still taller than me and I can rest my head on their shoulders.

10. DO YOU GET CLAUSTROPHOBIC?
No. I love tight spaces – I used to sleep in a closet when I was younger. Planes get to me though, with the enclosed space. But I think it’s more to do with the other people than the lack of space. I’m not so great about being stuck around a lot of people for a long length of time.

11. DO YOU GET SCARED IN THE DARK?
Only when I scare myself. (: I’m good at that though, with my active imagination, so I’m usually scared IN the dark. Not scared OF the dark.

12. THE LAST PERSON TO MAKE YOU CRY?
Myself. I was telling myself a story and got to an angsty part and I actually started crying.

13. WHAT'S YOUR WORST FEAR?
That I’ll find myself surrounded by bees and wasps in a small room and there will be no way to escape. No room to run. Nobody to help. Just the buzzing and the gross furriness and the stinging and… *whimpers pathetically* To this day, the scariest scene in any movie I’ve ever seen has been in the X-Files movie, where the bees come out of the ground in that one part.

14. WHAT KIND OF HAIR/EYE COLOR DO YOU LIKE?
In guys? Dark hair, dark eyes. *smolders* In me? Any color. I’d pick any color but my light-light-light blonde hair and my washed-out-grey eyes.

15. WHERE CAN YOU SEE YOURSELF PROPOSING?
Never happen. I would never put myself out on a limb like that. The fall would hurt too much.

16. COFFEE OR ENERGY DRINK?
Neither. I get so wired just off a bar of chocolate that neither will EVER be drunken again.

17. FAVORITE PIZZA TOPPING?
Peanut butter and sausage.

18. IF YOU COULD EAT ANYTHING RIGHT NOW, WHAT WOULD IT BE?
Ice cream. *drools again* I don’t care that it’s not healthy for me.

19. FAVORITE COLOR OF ALL TIME?
Blue.

20. HAVE YOU EVER EATEN A GOLDFISH?
Yes. Both the cracker-variety and the pet-store-variety. Don’t recommend it.

21. WHAT WAS THE FIRST MEANINGFUL GIFT YOU'VE EVER RECEIVED?
All gifts are meaningful to me because I never expect them. They always make me feel good. My mom bought me lunch the day before yesterday and that was awesome, even though it probably didn’t mean anything to her to give it. It meant a lot to me to get it.

22. DO YOU HAVE A CRUSH?
No, not at the moment. I’ll find someone though. (:

23. ARE YOU DOUBLE JOINTED?
No. Kinda, in one of my fingers, but that was because I broke it as a kid and it healed improperly.

30. SAY A NUMBER FROM ONE TO A HUNDRED:
‘A number from one to a hundred’

31. BLONDES OR BRUNETTES?
Brunettes.

32. FAVORITE QUOTE?
"So I’ll be holding my breath, could this be the end? Is it that moment when I find the one that I’ll spend forever with.”

33. FAVORITE PLACE?
Curled up in my bed.

34. HAVE YOU BEEN OUT OF THE U.S.?
Yes. Studied in Europe for awhile during college.

35. YOUR WEAKNESSES?
Other people. You get on my nerves when I have to talk to you in person. Leaving hairs around and germs on my things and talking when I want to be quiet and repeating yourselves over and over and never leaving me alone to do what I want and laughing at things and… *sigh* Yeah.

36. MET ANYONE FAMOUS?
No. If I ever have, I don’t remember it and don’t really care. Being famous is overrated.

37. FIRST JOB?
FIRST job? Dang, that’s a long time ago. I do believe my first job was cleaning my room – I think I was paid in cookies. Money wise, I babysat for a while, then ended up doing random things around the neighborhood, and my first ‘real’ job was at the Dairy Queen.

38. EVER DONE A PRANK CALL?
Yes. Stupidly.

39. DO YOU THINK EVERYONE OUT THERE HAS A SOULMATE?
Most definitely. I just hope I find mine.

40. WHAT WERE YOU DOING BEFORE YOU FILLED THIS OUT?
Walking back from the post office, where I had to mail a package.

41. HAVE YOU EVER HAD SURGERY?
Yup. Not fun. Still itching at the stitches, too.

42. WHAT DO YOU GET COMPLIMENTED ABOUT MOST?
My online writing. Only compliments I generally get.

43. HAVE YOU EVER HAD BRACES?
Yes. *flinches* I hated them.

44. WHAT DO YOU WANT FOR YOUR BIRTHDAY?
No clue. I’m pretty happy right now.

45. HOW MANY KIDS DO YOU WANT AND THEIR NAMES?
At the moment, I have no particular desire to have any kids at all. I could see them being fun, but that’s no reason to have one right now.

46. WERE YOU NAMED AFTER ANYONE?
No idea about my real name, other than I know it’s biblical and my dad’s really into biblical things. My nickname (Cori) comes from my grandmother’s sister.

47. WHAT IS THE BIGGEST TURN OFF OF THE OPPOSITE SEX?
Messiness. I like guys who are cleaner.

48. WHAT IS ONE THING YOU LIKE(D) ABOUT HIGH SCHOOL?
That it’s over.

49. WHAT KIND OF SHAMPOO DO YOU USE?
Whatever, but I have gotten the ‘Aussie’ shampoo a few times now, I think. I don’t pay too much attention.

50. DO YOU LIKE YOUR HANDWRITING?
When I’m writing slowly, yes. When I scribble (more often than not) it’s illegible.

51. WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE LUNCH MEAT?
Roast beef with horseradish. Same as :icontwistedcreampuff:

52. ANY BAD HABITS?
Tons. My worst is probably my neurotic lack of self-confidence.

53. ARE YOU A JEALOUS PERSON?
Sometimes. Not usually, though, and I get over it really fast.

55. DO YOU AGREE WITH FRIENDS WITH BENEFITS?
No.

56. DO LOOKS MATTER?
Not generally.

57. HOW DO YOU RELEASE ANGER?
Cry, mope, and then kill someone or something in a story – generally painfully and horribly.

58.WOULD YOU RATHER GAIN 58 POUNDS OR LOSE 58 POUNDS.
Gain. I’d either be dead or hospitalized if I lost 58 pounds. I would like to lose about ten, though. Then I’d be happy with my weight. But my ice cream vice prevents it.

60. WHAT WAS YOUR FAVORITE TOY AS A CHILD?
My box of color crayons.

61. HOW MANY NUMBERS ARE IN YOUR CELL PHONE?
Um… four. *innocent smile* I hate talking on the phone.

62.WERE YOU A FAN OF BARNEY AS A LITTLE KID?
Ouch. This dates me. I was too old for Barney. I had the Fraggles. (:

63. DO YOU USE SARCASM?
Yes. But my friends don’t pick up on it often enough.

64. MASHED POTATOES OR MACARONI AND CHEESE?
Both. Mixed together. With real cheese and vegetables mixed in.

65. WHAT DO YOU LOOK FOR IN A GUY/GIRL?
I like the clean-cut guys, no facial hair, not overly muscled but lean and strong, who are willing to snuggle and be a partner in a relationship. I’m not here to be a servant, nor do I want someone who will never voice an opinion. An equal. Preferably a cute equal.

66. WHAT ARE YOUR NICKNAMES?
Cori, Cor, Cords, Cori-cat.

67. FAVORITE SUPER POWER?
I’d kill to be able to sense other people’s emotions.

68. WHAT'S YOUR FAVORITE TV SHOW?
Big Bang Theory, Mythbusters, Modern Marvels, Star Gate (first few seasons)

69. WHAT'S THE BEST WAY TO DEAL WITH YOUR ENEMIES?
Ignore them – they tend to not care anyways. And if that doesn’t work, go evil and make them wish they’d never crossed you. Pranks, backstabbing…

70. WHAT'S YOUR FAVORITE ICE CREAM FLAVOR?
Vanilla ice cream with chocolate chunks and caramel.

71. DO YOU HAVE ALL YOUR FINGERS AND TOES?
Yup.

72. DO YOU HAVE A COMPUTER IN YOUR ROOM?
I own a laptop and it goes pretty much anywhere.

73. PLANS FOR TONIGHT?
NO I DO NOT! I know it’s a Friday, but I seriously don’t care. I just got back from my vacation and I need a vacation for myself.

74. WHERE DO YOU WANT TO LIVE WHEN YOU ARE OLDER?
Here’s fun. But I want to travel all over the world… someday. Make some money first. (:

75. DO YOU WANT EVERYONE TO ANSWER THESE QUESTIONS?
Sure, why not?

76. WHAT ARE YOU LISTENING TO?
The guy outside my apartment painting yellow lines on the parking lot. His machine is loud.

77. LAST THING YOU DRANK?
Water.

78. LAST PERSON YOU TALKED TO ON THE PHONE?
My friend Bridge, last night.

79. THE FIRST THING YOU NOTICE IN THE OPPOSITE SEX?
Body structure: shoulders, stomach, arms… Okay, so torso area. (:

80. WHAT DO YOU LIKE TO DO IN YOUR SPARE TIME?
Write and draw, or sit and do nothing while telling myself stories.

81. FAVORITE THING TO HATE?
People who don’t help take care of the planet.

82. FAVORITE SEASON OF THE YEAR?
Fall.

83. WHAT'S YOUR FAVORITE TYPE OF CANDY?
Chocolate. Any kind, but Cabury Cream Eggs are to die for.

84. HAVE YOU EVER REALLY AND TRULY HAD A BEST FRIEND?
Yes… but said ‘best friend’ wasn’t real, so I’m not sure he counts. IRL I really haven’t had much. I have friends, some of whom I count as ‘best’ friends, but they aren’t really what I see as what a best friend could be.

85. FAVORITE HAIR COLOR?
I’d love to put blue streaks in my hair. Maybe make my grey eyes pick up some color.

86. EYE COLOR?
Blue on me. Dark on guys.

87. SHOE SIZE?
US size 8.5

88. FAVORITE FAST FOOD PLACE?
Dairy Queen, but only for the ice cream. I know how the food is made and will NEVER eat there again.

89. FAVORITE RESTAURANT?
Perkins for their pies. Country Kitchen for their cake. Culvers for their hamburgers. And this little, backwater local place called the Forest Inn for… everything else. *yum* I love that place.

90. DO YOU LIKE SUSHI?
No. I don’t like fish, raw or otherwise.

91. WATCH TV TODAY?
Yes… although I didn’t really WATCH it. They were doing a Michael Jackson tribute and I was just listening. I didn’t really even have the TV on, just the cable box that’s connected to my speaker. So it was just sound.

92. FAVORITE DAY OF THE YEAR?
Midwinter. December 21st.

93. PLAY ANY MUSICAL INSTRUMENTS?
Piano, drums, guitar, and recorder. None very well.

94. REPUBLICAN OR DEMOCRAT?
Independent.

96. RELATIONSHIPS OR ONE NIGHT STANDS?
Relationship. I’d never be able to do a one-night stand – I get too attached to people for that to happen.

97. WHAT WAS THE LAST THING YOU BOUGHT?
The postage to send my package I just got back from mailing.

98. WOULD YOU EVER BE A HOUSEWIFE?
Um… depends. I would love to take a year off working at some point to write a novel, so I’m not sure that would count as a ‘housewife’ or not. I doubt I’d ever be able to stay home and do nothing but be a housewife – I would get really REALLY bored really fast. And that’s not good for me, ‘cause I start destroying things when I get bored.

99. WHAT BOOK ARE YOU READING?
Wheel of Time series, book one. For the zillionth time. I destroyed my first two copies rereading it, and am now on my third copy.

Yup. :XD: Can't beat WOT... at least the first few books. Not a fan of the latest ones. And he died, so now it's never going to be finished.

Jordan died?

Loved the first few books, but got increasingly bored with it. Made it to the eight in the series, and then just quit. It's like watching the grass grow. Or reading a description on how it grows :)

But yes, the first book was pretty good.

wheel of time? is it good?
'My worst is probably my neurotic lack of self-confidence', nice mine too. along with a few other sark habits....

you know I can actually relate to a lot of your answers. I dont tell myself stories though, I do talk to myself anddaydream enlessly though, I would be sitting or staring into space and ranmonly laugh/snort at my mental movies, it freaks my family out. My prized possession would probably be my portfolio though, it is filled with so many time-consuming drawings.
Agreed on the messiness turn-off too. that and if the guy is involved in stupid illegal crap.

:iconcordria:
Wheel of Time is good - but with the caveat that the FIRST book is good, the second-fourth books are okay, and after that it's pointless gibberish. :)

I don't tell myself stories aloud, they're more like daydreaming. I freak people out when I randomly grin and laugh at something in my own mind. :D Cool that someone else does that.

:iconcordria:
Yeah, Jordan's dead. Apparently they got some new guy to write the last book, but it's gonna end up being three books or something.

You made it farther than me. I made it to six before quitting. I agree - it's like reading about grass growing. Which I think he might have actually done at one point...

The Latest Recommendation:

Graceling by Kristin Cashore.

In a world where people born with extreme skill – called a Grace – are feared and exploited, Katsa carries the burden of a skill even she despises: the Grace of killing. She lives under the command of her uncle Randa, King of the Middluns, and is expected to execute his dirty work, punishing and torturing anyone who displeases him.

When she firsts meets Prince Po, who is Graced with combat skills, Katsa has no hint of how her life is about to change.

She never expects to become Po’s friend.

She never expects to learn a new truth about her own Grace – or a terrible secret that lies hidden far away… a secret that could destroy all seven kingdoms with words alone.

Overall Rating: 3.5 / 5 stars

In the debut novel that is overflowing with an iffy plot and a confusing world, Kristin Cashore manages to make her characters shine. I almost put the book down after thirty pages, so oddly worded was her narration and so confusing was the concepts she was passing off. In the first section of the book, she fell headfirst into the horribly common plague of ‘action first, explain important details that allow the reader to understand the action later’.

Then she stopped focusing on plot for a moment and her characters made their move. Ten pages from being destined to be returned to the library as a failed experiment, suddenly I fell in love with Katsa and Po and (eventually) Blitterblue and even the wretched Giddeon. I was determined and destined to worm my way through the novel if for no other reason than to find out what ultimately happens to them. Giggling at their lifelike and boisterous conversations, my breath catching at angsty moments, loving their growth and change as characters…

All the while, rolling my eyes at the convoluted and seemingly random plot. The penultimate ending is abrupt, leaving us with the knowledge that there is more to the story… but most definitely not enough for a sequel without adding in some new twist. The essential ‘ plot’ to the story involving the Mad King certainly is wrapped up… but in a novel based almost completely on character, the character’s strings are left hopelessly up in the air. A mere twenty more pages detailing Katsa’s journey back to Middluns to face with her uncle would have summed up the novel perfectly.

Borrow (don’t buy) this book and slog through the first thirty pages. I promise you that once you get your teeth into the characters, their boundless spirits will echo off the pages, drag you into the story, and will hold a knife to your throat until you finish this. I hope Kristin Cashore can do better with her plot next time, for she has a real Grace when it comes to characterization and will create some truly memorable stories.
